Focused Coaching

Habit Change Coaching

You know what you want to do differently. The challenge is getting the new behavior to become the one you actually live out consistently.

Habit Change Coaching helps you identify the patterns, triggers, beliefs, strategies, and choices connected to a habit and then build a more intentional way forward.

Talk With Paul About Habit Change

This May Be a Good Fit If...

  • You keep returning to the same unwanted habit
  • You know what you should do but struggle to follow through
  • Certain situations consistently trigger the same response
  • You've tried willpower alone and it hasn't been enough
  • You want greater accountability and intentionality
  • You want faith integrated into the coaching process
The Pattern Behind the Habit

Habits Usually Have More Going On Than the Behavior You Can See

A habit may look simple from the outside, but it can involve triggers, thoughts, emotional responses, expectations, routines, beliefs, rewards, avoidance, and learned patterns.

Coaching helps you slow that process down enough to understand what is happening and where new choices may be possible.

The Habit Change Process

From Automatic Pattern to Intentional Choice

1

Clarify the Habit

Define specifically what you want to change and what you want to experience instead.

2

Identify the Pattern

Explore when the habit happens, what tends to trigger it, and what thoughts or responses accompany it.

3

Explore What Drives It

Look at beliefs, internal strategies, emotional responses, motivation, values, and possible conflicts connected to the habit.

4

Create New Choices

Develop more useful responses, routines, perspectives, and practical alternatives.

5

Practice the New Pattern

Use action steps, reflection, rehearsal, and accountability to strengthen the desired behavior.

6

Review & Adjust

Evaluate what is working, identify new obstacles, and continue refining the plan.

Areas We May Explore

Understanding What Happens Before, During & After the Habit

Rather than focusing only on the behavior itself, coaching may explore the larger pattern surrounding it.

  • Situational triggers
  • Thought patterns
  • Emotional responses
  • Beliefs and expectations
  • Internal self-talk
  • Values and priorities
  • Motivation
  • Environmental cues
  • Rewards or perceived benefits
  • Accountability and support

A Different Question

Instead of asking only:

“Why can't I stop doing this?”

coaching can help you begin asking:

“What pattern is happening here, what is influencing it, and what could I choose differently?”

Christian Integration

More Than Behavior Modification

As a Christian coach, I believe lasting growth is not simply about managing appearances. It involves becoming more intentional about how we think, choose, respond, and live.

Scripture, prayer, Christian reflection, values, purpose, stewardship, responsibility, and the renewing of the mind may be incorporated into the coaching process.

I view the change principles I use in NLP through the biblical lens of Romans 12:2. NLP is one of the coaching tools I use; Scripture remains the foundation through which I understand growth and transformation.
Coaching Structure

Practical Coaching With Action Between Sessions

Habit change usually requires more than a good conversation. The work between sessions matters.

Coaching may include exercises, observation, journaling, practical experiments, action steps, accountability, Scripture reflection, or other assignments appropriate to your goals.

Sessions May Include

  • Goal clarification
  • Trigger and pattern identification
  • NLP-based coaching tools
  • Values and motivation work
  • New strategy development
  • Future-focused rehearsal
  • Action planning
  • Assignments and accountability
  • Prayer and Scripture reflection
Examples of Habit-Focused Goals

What Might Someone Work On?

Habit coaching is individualized. Examples may include practical personal-development and performance goals such as:

Health & Wellness Habits

Building healthier routines around food, movement, sleep, stress management, or other wellness behaviors within an appropriate coaching scope.

Productivity & Follow-Through

Procrastination patterns, consistency, planning, organization, and completing commitments.

Leadership Habits

Communication, preparation, boundaries, delegation, decision-making, and other leadership behaviors.

Important Distinction

Habit Coaching Is Not Medical or Mental Health Treatment

Paul Hackett Coaching provides coaching and personal-development services. Habit Change Coaching does not diagnose or treat medical conditions, eating disorders, addictions, trauma, psychiatric conditions, or other clinical concerns. When a client's needs fall outside the appropriate scope of coaching, referral to a qualified licensed or medical professional may be recommended.
